Kinzan-Yan Japanese Restaurant (Currently Closed)

Frankly, eating time is becoming quite a hassle these days as we look at each other and popped the same question: Where to today?

Saving you from the pain. We look to Kinzan-Yan Japanese Restaurant at Fusionopolis , one-north. (Eventually we'll get tired of it after tons of visits. Let's be honest. Despite so, A MUST TRY!!)

Sorry Muslim Friends, It's non-halal. so maybe you might want to press away, or maybe you can recommend it to your non-Muslim friends. (Pretty Please?)

Their Story

Kinzan Yan (formerly known as Shin Nichi) – They are a casual family-friendly restaurant that serves local Japanese cuisine in the heart of Singapore’s start-up scene. They are conveniently located at Fusionopolis, just right above one-north MRT station (CC23) and next to JTC LaunchPad. Go visit them during your lunch or dinner for a taste of the rising sun, perfectly blended with ingredients from all around South East Asia.

Their Website : http://kinzan.com.sg

Visit it for much more!

Surprisingly, they use wix.com too!

Just opposite Black Canyon Coffee. Casual setting with seating inside and outside the restaurant. Apparently this place had been here since 2009 and was known as Shin nichi previously. The place serves typical Japanese stuff like ramen, sushi, don, sashimi, tempura.

2 Visits. 2 Reviews but 1 Final score!

First Up. The Tonkatsu set that my mother opted for. What does it include? It comes with Tonkatsu with salad, Plain Rice topped with Chicken Floss. Served with Miso Soup and Watermelon.

Services was great and fast. Despite the office crowd, her food was served promptly of a acceptable time(Not Rushed) But that doesn't mean everything. What was the food like? It's frankly not up there with the best but it's close! For $10.80 (Normal non-set a la-carte)/ $12.90 (Set)

1st Visit :

The Tonkatsu was well done. I had a try at it and i liked it alot. The skin wasn't salty and soggy like other places and there's no over-cooked nor under-cooked meat Meanwhile, my Mom on the other hand was neutral about the dish. She mentioned that it could have been better had the meat been thicker as it was a little too skinny for a expensive dish.

2nd Visit :

Well. I have to say, i was disappointed. There was no consistency but i believe that it was still much better than other places that claimed to be "Japanese Cuisines Standards" ; Obviously a lie. Same comments from my Mother so I suppose I don't have to say more about it.

Conclusion? Well I'll give the thumbs up. Out of 10 Tonkatsu, We give it a 7 out of 10 Tonkatsus. Overall? Read on!

2nd Dish : Tori Teriyaki Set, $12.80 for it. And $10 for the Normal Non-Set A la-carte. For the set, It includes Tori Yaki, Miso Soup with the Chicken in Teriyaki Sauce with side salad and Plain rice with Chicken Floss. And of course Watermelons. (Top-Up Chawanmushi +$3.00, Usually $4.00 individually)

1st Visit : I have to say. WOW. What is this goodness? This is why I visited twice.(Obvious enough). Despite the crowd, food was served in an acceptable timing, even before the Tonkatsu. And i have to say, WOW. just WOW! The Chicken was perfectly cooked. No Under-Cooked and Over-Cooked Meat tasted. The Teriyaki sauce was also on point! Not salty at all, unlike other places. The Plain Rice, i got to say i love it. Brilliant. Same said for every food on the plates and bowl. Chawanushi was on point although, it was quite plain for $3. Quite disappointing but the taste was really nice and makes up for it.

2nd Visit : 2nd Time lucky? well... No. The Crowd was the same, packed. Service time? Well a disappointingly long(gggg...zzzz) time. How long tho? Well, 20+ minutes. Horrendous! The first visit wasn't even passed 10 minutes long of a wait.

So how was the experience? The every other food items was alright but, the main item, the chicken was below par for a very good restaurant. The chicken was over-cooked(or if you want to,call it chao ta) on the skin(top) but under-cooked on 2 pieces of the meat. The Teriyaki sauce was a little saltier than liked but still much better than other Japanese restaurants wannabe.

So what is the final verdict? Well. Inconsistent. That's all. The food served was really really nice. Service is very inconsistent and to make things worst, there was a bunch of inconsiderate idiots(not going to say which national) that just can't shut up and stop laughing so loud. Ignoring those people, my take on the quality.

Tonkatsu set : 7/10

Tori Teriyaki set : 8.5/10

Of course 2 visits isn't enough to tell how consistent they are but we'll update the post when we visit more.

Service : 8.5/10

Food : 7.5/10

Value : 9/10

Cleanliness : 10/10

Overall : 9/10 (Must Try!!)
